about

According to Nick Leet...

"Abbey Rose" was the first song written for the "Cop Light Parade" album. We originally recorded it with the original "Moonlight Girls" line-up that included Ben "Country" Baker just after the release of MGs but replaced the bass guitar part when Jim joined the band. I wrote the song during a tough personal time. I was sitting on the couch at my sister's house in North Dakota while my 5 year old niece, Abbey Rose, sat next to me. I wanted her to have a song that she could turn to as she grew up and faced challenges.

Fun Fact: The Minnesota Twins played "Abbey Rose" during a Twins game at Target Field.

lyrics

It's not like they told you
but it's the way that it'll be
Things have a way of changing frequency
playing in the corner
hair down the back
your little brother's gonna make me smile
with his photograph

Abbey Rose
this is how life goes
I never want to see you feeling bad
Abbey Rose
this is how life goes
I never want to see you feeling sad

you light us all up
like a corner store match
with your love and childhood energy
when things get bad
please don't be sad
you know you can always talk to me
