According to Nick Leet...

Jim and I had an acoustic show booked in Duluth, MN at Amazing Grace. We both drove up their separately so I took the opportunity to keep going and visit Hibbing, MN where Bob Dylan grew up. I spent the day there and couldn't believe such a larger than life figure came from that small, cold mining town. I wrote the lyrics on a sheet of paper at the stop lights on the way back to Duluth and wrote the rest of the song at soundcheck and performed it that night.
