about

According to Nick Leet...

This was the last song added to the record. I had written it a year or two earlier but it really didn't do a lot for me. The guys liked it but I thought something wasn't quite right. Mark came to the studio one night like a man possessed. He rearranged the whole song over the course of a half hour and suddenly it worked. He chopped out verses and all the unnecessary fat. It barely clocks over 2 minutes. I'm super proud of the "Big Star" chimey ending. Jim's backing vocals really elevated it as well.

lyrics

The clock is ticking
but what is it saying
You better keep going
You better stop praying
Hang on, better stop before too long

It's some kind of crisis
It can seem so lifeless
Hang on, better stop before too long

Daylight Instead
you're never gonna know where you'll wake up next
Daylight Instead
you're never gonna know where you'll wake up, wake up

A change in the weather will block out the pressure
Hang on
Better stop before too long

So what the hell are you saying?
What kind of games are you playing?
Will someone come and knock me around?

Wake up
