about

According to Nick Leet...

I discovered a song called "Sweet Louisiana Sound" in the mid nineties. It was by a band called Billy Pilgrim. I always loved it and my first band even did an acoustic cover of it as our very first show. Fast forward to years later I end up meeting Andrew Hyra from Billy Pilgrim through my friend Dave. We had a mutual musical admiration and started writing this song one verse and chorus at a time using our iPhones and Facebook Messenger. We made it a point to not talk on the phone or officially meet until the song was recorded. We finished the song and Chad sent a copy to Andrew. He and I spoke on the phone for the first time that day and later met up in Chicago for some shows together.

lyrics

That old highway doesn't sound like it used to
That old car is long gone
took a hit outside of the Turf
Had no money nearly lost my shirt
that old car is long gone

Is it you, is it me?
Why can't we agree
Is it that we're supposed to be
just where we are
Like that old car
Never got that far

These old freights
They can't wake me up
Grinding that steel on down
Passing through
I don't know
Where they come from
or where they go
Grinding that steel on down

Is it true, you can't see
The hold you have on me
Keeping your eyes closed
I know your awake
These old freights
run so far away

Is it true, you can't see
The hold you have on me
Keeping your eyes closed
I know your awake
So take my hand to see through
if this gets too much for you
I told a lie
so your wish would come true
shooting stars, never got that far
shooting stars, never got that far

These old pictures running through our heads
grinding that steel on down
All the places, meant to see
Everything that could have been
That old car is long gone
