about

According to Nick Leet...

This song was written on 10/21/03. My ex-girlfriend broke up with me the day before and I showed up to OBT Studio for band rehearsal the next day. Mark walked in and I told him what had happened. He responded, "And your favorite singer killed himself today too. That's terrible???". I hadn't heard about it yet. He was referring to Elliott Smith. I sat on the floor of the studio playing this song over and over all night and no one really said much. Sad day.

lyrics

Guess you're finally gone
no more nothing's wrong
I guess I was naive to think we'd have a family someday.
Can't say I didn't see it coming
Doesn't make it hurt any less
Shadows on the wall
"Clocks" in the air
Can't hear nothing
Now that you're gone

Get up and read the news
and shake away these dusty blues from you
I guess there's nothing I can say but lay here and stay awake
Thinking of you

She says I still love you
Just not the way that you want me to
She says she still cares
But how am I supposed to feel
When you've said that all along
