about

According to Nick Leet...

This song was actually two songs that we combined after Mark's suggestion. The ending was a different thing I was working on. Mark wanted the "Big Star" flair at the end. It's about the difficulties of dating again after a long term relationship has dissolved and the fear of going through it all over again. See if you can find the nods to the Beatles, the Replacements and Elliott Smith in the lyrics. I wrote the lyrics the afternoon before a show we had at Lee's Liquor Lounge in MPLS. I needed something to sing that night. I figured I would change them later but they stuck.

lyrics

Sleeping in the backs of cars
wonder where we go when we say too much
do you think we're ever gonna work it out
you really don't have much to give
I'll remember that as long as I live
do you think we're ever gonna work it out
do you think we're ever gonna see it through

and I'll be alright
just for tonight
and you'll be high
high as a kite
just for tonight

Telephone says I'm alone
telling me another bird has flown
do you think we're ever gonna work it out
Crying in the backs of cars
Sleeping in the skyway between the bars
do you think we're ever gonna work it out
do you think we're ever gonna see it through

When dreams lose out to memories
one of these days you'll see things my way
and love, love took a year from me
one of these days we'll see it again
