about

According to Nick Leet...

Ben "Country" Baker announced during the making of the record that he was moving to Shanghai. I was super sad to be losing a friend as well as fearful that we would lose the band. This song was about Ben moving. I also took a line from some lady on Nicollet Mall in downtown MPLS that shouted things like "satan's done a number on us" and Life is Life". I wonder whatever happened to her.

lyrics

The truth is I don't know what to do
got so much more to prove
sad to see you walk on
You know I believe you know that's true
more than you realize, more than some do
Maybe we'll get there if we stay the course
or maybe again we'll lose

I don't want to believe you when you say you're moving on
don't want to see this all come undone
don't want to believe it
but you're telling me the truth
I want to make you stay
I want to get in your way
I want to get to you

There's a woman
on a wooden bench
said satan's done a number on us
then she gets on the bus
but life is life
what are we supposed to do
can't let it fade out like a series end
we can make something new begin
