about

According to Nick Leet...

Mark Devaraj and I were huge fans of the first Jesse Malin record "The Fine Art of Self Destruction". We were trying to write something in that vein. Years after this record came out I was at work and my phone vibrated when I was in a meeting. It was First Avenue asking if I'd open for Jesse Malin at his upcoming show. It was a great honor. Jesse and his band were super great and I shared Tater Tots with Cat Popper.

lyrics

I have dreams of you walking towards the light
call you in the morning to see if you're alright
you're overworked and behind on sleep
you've been pleasing everyone it's got you in too deep
you have to learn how to say no

27 washed up at best
you've been staring at the walls while you second guess me
Now I have to learn how to let go

This is what it's like choosing sides
Just this once, do you think you two could let it slide
This is what it's like choosing sides

You want more than you can get
You carefully construct your sentences
Feeling washed up, broken bad at best
You feel broken like the dish from the time that they missed
you want somehow to fill the cracks

We only hurt the ones we love the most
It's about time to give up the ghost

I keep telling you to give it time
Get some rest you know it'll be alright
Sometimes it's best to let sleeping dogs lie
before the words hit you right between the eyes
and the scars grow deeper than you realize
