about

According to Nick Leet...

I had written the lines "moving on is easy when you have a voice, falling apart is easy when you have no choice" for another song that I ultimately scrapped. I used it to kick off this song about the state of the world and country over the last 4 years. Laurie Lindeen came into the studio one night and laid down her tracks. I loved what she did with it. The ending has a bit of a Lemonheads vibe to it.

I was in the basement of the Turf Club one night when a friend of mine mentioned a certain someone was "asking America to hold his beer." I had to use it. This song was written the next day.

lyrics

Moving on is easy when you have a voice
Falling apart is easy when you got no choice
News channels hum along
Screaming their versions of truth
While we stay in bed wondering what we're gonna do

We wish this moment gone
it keeps going on
When you're alone
hold tight, sweetheart

How did you sink so damn low?
How do you feel when you're alone?
Your conscience clicking
Coast ain't clear
While you ask America to hold your beer
